What paint correction is
Paint correction is the machine-polishing stage that removes surface defects from the clear coat — swirl marks from washing, fine scratches, water-spot etching and dull, oxidized patches. It restores clarity, depth and gloss to the paint, and it is the stage that professional detailing and coating work should be built on. It is not a respray: correction works with the paint already on the car, and how much can be safely removed depends on how much clear coat the vehicle has.
Why it matters
Swirl marks and oxidation scatter light instead of reflecting it, which is why a dull car looks old even when it is mechanically perfect. Correction brings that gloss back, and it gives any coating or film a clean, prepared surface to bond to — protection applied over contaminated or unprepared paint does not perform the way it should.
